I remember when I was a kid and picking a lot in a night. I know we caught over 200 dozen one evening. But that wasn't this yard and we had a garden that made getting them easy. The best is after a couple days of soaking rain. I still pick nightcrawlers to save a little on the bait bill, but also because it's something the kids and I love to do. It takes a little practice to pull them out of the ground without breaking them. A little patience too. I have a personal best of three at once and one crawler that relaxed made 16 inches.. I had to let that one go. I haven't seen another like it. My neighbors checked it out too, way too big, it would have had many thinking it was a small snake.
After all this rain, I had to get out and get a good start to the year. I caught 15 dozen in 45 minutes. Not too bad. If it is still soaking wet this weekend, I'll fill my crawler flat and start some nitro bedding too. Gotta have some nitro crawlers for fishing.
Anyone else pick their own nightcrawlers anymore? How about the supergoodfishingteen? It's the best way to get a lot of good bait.
