I noticed that another group was selling smelt and even asked the DNR to see what the rules were. Yes we can sell smelt collected legally from Lake Superior. So if you know of anyone that wants some smelt, please let us know. The other group sold a lot for $50/5 gallon bucket. If you know anyone that wants some for a smelt fry or to freeze or salt for fishing, let us know ASAP. We could get most any amount and this is the time. But the run is ending soon so let us know right away.
This could be a good way for us to raise some funds for t-shirts, hats, stickers for the boats, the league end of year party, etc. We know it is short notice, but hey most fishing bites are here today, gone tomorrow and we just found this out.
We have found that a gallon of smelt is from 9 to 10 plus dozen smelt and a 5 gallon bucket can be 45-50 plus dozen smelt. So this is a lot cheaper then buying them any place else.
