Unfortunately I was not able to make it to the meeting so I will refrain from criticizing until I hear your responses. Hopefully anybody who attended can put their spin on this question and not just our fearless President (still love ya Doug....but would like to hear from the people who helped vote them out)
What are the reasons for the rough fish being booted from the list? Specifically.....what were the exact concerns.....too many fish to score? People suck at catching them? The catfish fins can poke you? We just love greasing the squeaky wheel and when somebody b***hes we come running? You could smuggle one in your pants? Somebody's tired of losing?
Forgive my sarcasm.........in the big picture.....big deal right? You're still going to fish, you're still going to compete, you're still going to have a chance to win $$, trophies, etc. What I'm having a tough time getting over is who the hell doesn't want them in so badly we have to have a vote? If 12 teams all say they hate the rule and it should go then I will shut up and apologize for my sarcasm.
I will still join the league and soon I'll forget about this........I just cannot come up with one strong reason for the action except that they aren't much of a factor week to week. In the event that is the reason.........salmon and trout aren't a factor either...yet we b***hed about size limits and wasted time arguing those details for one boat that was fishing them.....and they now fish in the "Big Fish" branch of MMTS.
Help me understand?

It was our closest vote. They aren't many fish ever, don't make much of an impact. I doubt many of our teams target them, and are not that good at catching them, or want to be. I really think if it's a gamefish, score it, but we discussed this and voted and the votes added up to "they're out this year".
I too don't understand the issue or concern. They don't make winners out of anyone and just let you work another species, IF you choose. I guess now I don't have to learn them, worry about you catching them, and that means I can focus more on the other fish that I do already score well in. I guess that means I get to score more and faster. That'll make it easier for the other teams..
In the Ultimate Angler Challenge Series coming this summer, bigger dollars, bigger payouts, etc. These rough fish will be scored. That's already solid. You can't be an Ultimate angler if you can't find a hot carp bite, when that's the best bite on the lake. Sorry we mean "Ultimate angler" all around and that means all game fish. More species make the decisions and clock tougher to manage. I think it will be awesome to see what species come in and the sizes and numbers that come in. I had to buy a new camera to hold all the photos.
MMTS is the toughest tournaments and most challenging contests I have ever fished, and I love that. So lets keep doing it.
The catfish are not rough fish and are still in. The only fish out are sucker, carp, burbot, buffalo fish, mooneyes, golden eyes, etc.
That's just my two cents worth and I have said it to everyone. So I am ok with the vote. Personally I wouldn't care if you bet me with a carp, sucker or any other rough fish. If you out fished me, because I didn't want to fish it or didn't know how. Hey that's what its all about and makes me have to learn more to keep up. Thanks Chopper 1, I hope some people answer.
Well I dont fish the mmts I just think its wrong not to include what you all call rough fish carp and suckers can be quit hard to catch and it seems to me that even if you caught one by mistake its a bonues, its kinda like when your targeting bass and a pike grabs your bait i bet you all dont release it.it then becomes a bonus.
Please quit calling the mighty carp a rough fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
whats this ultimate angler all about and wheres it going to be at.is it going to be held up north by duluth
Id like to thank all who could make it to the meeting on monday.I myself would have liked to see it where rough fish were in the money but my opinion doesnt count because Im not a member of the series. It was great to see that it was voted on and not just decided without letting the members have there say.
Ok beercan ,Ill make an attemp to not lump in the carp in the rough fish group!
The Ultimate angler challange series is going to be a 5 night event on 5 lakes within a few hours of duluth it is kinda like the multispecies guys are doing it hasnt be finalized yet but it will soon.
Swan ,Island,Hill,Rush and Big sandy are the lakes they will be held.
