We stayed at the State Campground on Gull Lake last year, Really nice campgroud- Only down side we found was that we had to load the boat everytime we weren't fishing-  Boat landing is in the same campground, but it is about  a 1/2 mile away.

Have you ever considered Lake Vermilion? I know a few people used to own cabins on the lake. Wouldn't that be nice...private dock space! Or you could park your campers in Benchwarmer's parking lot right on the river. Cooke350, if you need any more good ideas...just ask!

Could give Rainy Lake on the American side a try.  Plenty of water to explore there.  I am sure with a little looking you could find a campground that meets your needs.  It's a beautiful body of water
