Enjoying It

Just wondering if my friends to the north are enjoying the new snow. My mother-in-law sent us a message from Bovey, that they got 14" last night and today. She didn't seem real excited.

We got nothing here except a little rain. wanted to get out fishing for one last time, but I guess I can put the gear away.

Man I don't like the slush and snow.  But mother nature put it there, she can take it away at this time of year.  Yeah we got more of that white stuff.  Lots on the range over 27 inches last I heard, even heard of over 30 inches in some spots.  I know they weren't excited, but we needed water and I'll be glad to get it any way we can.  But I am not shoveling this time.  Cool.

I was actually down there on the first boat outing of the year.  Tuning walleyes on the Mississippi River in Red Wing.  It was terrible weather, winds, rain and cold, allll day.  But we moved around, scouted tried some new spots, saw 8-9 eyes caught, 5 to one boat and one in ours.  So of the hundred plus boats, we did pretty good.  But it didn't seem like it at the time.  But I found several spots that will see me again.  Awesome spots with lots of potential fish.  When we went onto Lake Pepin, we found a huge sheet of ice out there blocking one spot we wanted to test out.

We had fun and got out fishing.  That was a long day when we fished til near dark, were the last off the water at Colville and headed north.  First Sandstone, then Moose Lake, then I rushed home, into the ice and snow.  The roads sucked from Black Bear north.  But I made it without any troubles.  That's a good thing.

One day on the water and many, many more to come now.  Smelting is soon.  You going to make it up?

Sure going to try, Might have to get a couple buddies to come with, My neighbor has a guy he works with once and awhile has a cabin some place close to Duluth, so may be able to save money not having to get a hotel.

Went down to the Sportshow Sat, for Griz's induction into the National Hall of Fame. He was keeping on Bragging to me about the 12 lb Walleye he got down on the Mississippi in Red Wing two weeks ago. He had it in the fish tank at the SportShow. Awesome Fish. Darn thing was so fat it just laid on the Bottom like a rock.

Job Supt. running the Job I am on now, was up on Rainy last week for four days, I guess they did really good up there. I guess they got some nice sturgeon.

Keep me updated on the Smelt. just have to see what happens.

Smelting is coming soon.  Depending on the day, you guys could stay here.  I have space on the days my kids aren't here.  And I am close to lake, so no big deal.

I'ld have loved to see the Griz get inducted.  That's a real honor and he's earned it.  Great job.

I haven 't been able to get into that size of walleye at Red Wing, but I haven't been there enough to learn it well.  But I am getting there a little at a time.
