I have many different kinds of trailers.  Almost all of them have some kind of motion to them, except for the Zoom big salty chunks, which I use when I need a large profile.

I have been working with a lot of plastics learning them that last year plus, but am now going to work on the jig and pig stuff.  What kind of guidelines do you follow when choosing the trailers?  Does the depth you are fishing in determine the size of the trailer?  And colors to water clarity.  Any help would be great.

I could probably write a book on the pig-n-jig and trailers.  Here is my basic rules:

If I'm pitching around tight cover such as trees or docks in murky water, I usually will use something with a large profile such as a Zoom Big Salty Chunk or the large Uncle Josh in black or black/blue flake. If it's stained or clearer water, I go to black/brown with watermelon or craw color.

If swimming a jig in any color water, I use a Zoom swimmin' chunk or my "mystery" trailer in black/brown, black/blue, or watermelon.

In super clear water on weed edges I use black/brown with a watermelon trailer with a laminate colored grub trailer.

Over the last four years I've caught 80% of my fish on the pig-n-jig.  It is usually the first thing I pick up, but I know when to put it down. :)

Thanks.  I like the info, but I think it raised more questions.  Like do you always have a contrasting jig skirt and the trailer?  What about the weights of the jigs?  Or the jig head types?  I know that I look at the weedless jigs and think.  Wow!  How's a fish supposed to get past that weed guard..  Do you trim that down?  I have seen people do it and I know I would feel like I have to.

See learn a little and ask more, I am a very detailed person and that helps get up to speed, but it all helps me dial in on the fish and different techniques.

Thanks..
