If your looking for bass early season try the north and east side of the lakes first.A shallow cove or bay in that area will warm up first.a few baits to try early is a rattle style bait,a single bladed spinnerbait and small plastics.make long cast to any cover in the areas you have scouted.try to be as quite as possible with the entry of your lure so you dont spook the fish.My favorite place I like to try is old lilly pad fields they are usually the first vegitation to emerge in the shallows which means cover.look to make long fan casts to locate cruising bass they will become more aggresive as the water warms above 55 degrees and spawn some where around 68 degrees.Remember to work baits slower fish are sluggish early.Tip if your using a spinner bait and you feel the blade stop thumpping set the hook, fish will grab the bait instead of whacking it!

One thing to add and to keep in mind. Use a Dark color on cloudy overcast days ( blue, black, browns) on sunny days use your chartruse, greens, whites, orange. was never a true believer but one day we were throwing chatruse spinners in a back bay and probably caught 5-6 fish in about a hour. dawned on me and switched to black (cloudy day) and was able to hammer about 25 fish in a bout a half hour in the same bay. Time of year was late may this side of eveleth.

I wish gas was not $3.09 a gallon or I would drive up for some bassin' this weekend.  Pool 2 has not been very kind the last couple of weeks and I would rather be lake fishing. :(

Well you should see the smallies, we have been really catching em now.  Lots and they are staging for spawn.  Fat like football but the stomachs are still hard, so they are not spawning yet.
