DABL 2008

First I want to say it was a very fun and exciting 2007 season and thank all the teams for participating.  I started this pinned post (stays at the top of the DABL forums) for angler to talk about next season and yes it's never to early to start planning for next year.

First things that I think need to be done, just tell me to shut up if I'm sounding insane:

  1. Vote on new president
  2. Create a DABL board of directors

Other discussion topics:

  1. Do another wild card night or keep it at one.
  2. Evaluate weigh in water system we have been using
  3. Lower or raise number of events
  4. Possibly create a B.A.S.S. opt in for those that want to do it (club champs, regionals, state, etc)
  5. Make schedule for next year
  6. Keep split nights?  Maybe work something out to shuffle teams around based on previous nights placements (ie even placements from previous night in one group, odd placements from previous night in another group for the next split night).  I personally did see half the teams in the league.
  7. 15 team limit, any more then we need permits for together nights, unless we have all split nights.
  8. Discuss how 2008 funds will be distributed (more prizes, doing public service, etc).  We won't have the big hit cost like in 2007 for the scales.

Please post any other items that I didn't list, which I know there are to this forum topic.  The league has grown a lot in 2 years and will start to lose previous teams and gain new teams in the process.  Getting everything setup in the beginning and early will help get to DABL's ultimate end result and that is for all teams to learn and to have FUN doing it.

I would like to have wildcards on weekends and have them at least 6 hrs!Thats just me!

As long as we have more than 15 teams we must have split night to conform to the DNR regs. But the shuffle thing should work pretty well!We wont need together nights if we have the shuffle unless we do wildcards togethers and permit them!

I like the shuffle after every two to three events.  That way everyone gets a chance to fish against everyone else and are head to head over the summer and all the events.  I like the wildcards being for 6 hours also.  But I don't like the permitting stuff.  To do that you need to pay $120 an event and put them in by Oct this year.  Are you ready for that?  And who's going to do the permits, pay for them and then be responsible for the fishing statistics and reports needed?  The DNR takes that stuff very serious and we need to if we go that way.  I think with the shuffle and split groups of 15 or under teams each, we don't need to have any big events, UNLESS it's the end of year MN Bass Classic.

But even the Multispecies Classic will be restricted to the 1st 15 teams.  Just me two cents worth.  I hope others talk.

Wow, lot's to think about for sure.

First off, A Big THANKS to Al Ansell (Twitch) for a great job this year as the President!! I appreciate his efforts and time. Thanks Al!!!!

A New President. hmmm Let's skip the President thing and go to a 3-5 member board. That way the work load can be spread around and one person doesn't have to carry the load. The board votes on what needs to be decided and majority rules. Or we can set up an e-mail voting system and let all the members vote and again majority rules.

I would be willing to serve on the board.

I also like the wild card idea on weekends and the 6 hours. I prefer Saturdays as it seems on Sunday's there's more water skiers, jet boats and etc. But I'll go with the majority.

I like the "weigh in water system" I thinks it great for our fish.

More events would be great. Bass season opens on Island on a Saturday, around May 10th ( that's the second Sat. in May 2008) I think. So we could have an event the next Monday-Thurs. I personally didn't care for the 3 week vacation we had after the 3rd event. I think with some schedule tweaking we could fish 11 events, maybe even 12 along with a A Saturday Wild card event thrown in.

I'd be interested in the B.A.S.S. thing, but need to learn more.

I like the way we did it this year with the split and together nights. Some lakes like Chub, Island Lake South and Big Lake IMO are really too small for 15 teams. So the split works really well. If we have to stay at 15 teams, so be it. But we could still do the split thing on the smaller lakes.

2008 Funds, a combo of higher pots and public Service. Maybe buy a rod and reel for disadvantaged kids who want to fish? Sponsor a kid for some sort of Camp, like YMCA if they still have that? Just ideas. How about our own website, forums and etc. like Multi-Species has? We could pay Doug to run the website. Also how about we start putting money aside to set up and run a Bass Classic for this area?

I have some other ideas I'd like to bring forward, but I'm out of time today. Work calls :(
