If one was going to go fishing for trout in a stream with light spinning tackle what would we be talking about?

Rods?

Line?

Lures?

It's been a while since I've spinned fished for trout.  But I do take my spinning rig when I float the Brule river along with my fly rod.  I also used to use my spin rod on the north shore streams fishing pocket water.

I would use a rod from 4' - 6'.  I guess it would similiar to getting a rod for catching pannies.  So a 5' light that has a fast action would be good.  Get a rod a reel combo that is matched for 4lb test mono.  Small rods are great for tight spaces and overhangs.  With a longer rod you can mend line easier when drifting bait or flies thru deep runs, that why fly rods work well.

So I would choose 5' light fast action spinning rod spooled with 4lb test.  You can fill the reel spool with backing material first to save on the line.  You don't have to put more 4lb test, because rarely is a stream trout going to take 100' of line out.  I would get some hooks size 10 or smaller.  Splitshots to get bait or flies down.  Get a good selection of nymph flies.  If you into casting then, small rapalas, inline spinners (Mepps), or even small plastic baits like power baits.  Bring some bobbers too.  Bobbers work like a strike indicators when fly fishing.  A spinning rod is very versatile when fishing for trout, but fly fishing is more fun .  It all depends on the person.
